Lux Ex Tenebris - Collectible
Vega201 - (After Victor Vasarely)
Lux Ex Tenebris is a workshop discussing the importance of research in developing an artistic concept or “story”, whether it’s based in cultural context or printing technique. The notion of “story” is critical in guiding creative decisions to help make them faster, so that each aspect a viewer notices – from the typesetting of the title, to packaging scale and orientation, print quality and editorial flow – all support the basic project thesis. In this workshop Foley will show his process for creating a fine art edition called “Lux Ex Tenebris,” including examples of reference images, from both personal and art history, and how they link directly to his initial concepts and experiments in translating them into a risographic print edition. This process will include graphic techniques he discovered for color blending, layering, print registration, packaging and editing toward a “complete” body of work. More importantly, he will share the sometimes unexpected mistakes and discoveries made along the way.
Greg Foley designs and creative-directs Visionaire, V Magazine, VMAN and VFiles. He is a Grammy-nominated album cover designer, the author-illustrator of the children’s series Thank You Bear, and a contributing artist for The New Yorker.
